When Ghusl Is Farḍ

Ghusl is farḍ in a small number of clear, already-familiar cases. Coming out of the menstrual cycle, once a woman becomes clean, is one — this cannot be delayed under any circumstance, since delaying it is playing games with Allah (swt), and it must not be treated lightly. Coming out of nifās, once the blood following childbirth has stopped, is another, and this at forty days, six weeks, at the very most. After intimacy with a spouse it is farḍ upon both parties equally, whether or not any discharge or any lustful sensation actually accompanied it — so long as there was contact, entry, penetration, ghusl becomes farḍ regardless. And after iḥtilām, the dream already described, it is farḍ as well, for either sex, though it is more often spoken of in connection with young men in particular.
