Prophet Ibrāhīm: Part 2 — A Nation by Himself, the House and Lūṭ
Section 13 of 21 · Lives of the Prophets
Is the Order of Allah Strange?
فَأَقْبَلَتِ ٱمْرَأَتُهُۥ فِى صَرَّةٍ فَصَكَّتْ وَجْهَهَا وَقَالَتْ عَجُوزٌ عَقِيمٌ
“So his wife came forward with a clamor, and slapped her own face and said, “(How can I have a child when I am) a barren old woman?”” (51:29)
“She said, “Woe to me! Shall I give birth to a child while I am an old woman and this is my husband, an old man? This is something amazing indeed.”” (11:72)
She slapped her face. Fa-ṣakkat wajhahā: she slapped her face and said, I'm an old woman, and my husband is old; how can we have a child? Hādhā amrun ʿajīb***: she said, this is a strange thing. She slapped her face in amazement, and she frowned. Hādhā amrun ʿajīb, hādhā shayʾun ʿajīb: this is a strange thing.
“They said, “Do you marvel at Allah’s command? Allah’s mercy and His blessings have always been upon you, O people of the house. Surely, He is Praiseworthy, Glorious.”” (11:73)
The angels told her: a-taʿjabīna min amri Allāh. Is the order and commandment of Allah strange? There is nothing strange. Allah (swt): kun fa-yakūn. He would tell anything to be, and it will become. They said: do you wonder at the decree of Allah? The mercy of Allah and His blessings be on you, O family of Ibrāhīm. Surely He, Allah, is All-Praiseworthy, All-Glorious. Raḥmatu Allāhi wa barakātuhu ʿalaykum ahla al-bayt. Allah (swt) is giving the blessings and the mercy on the household of Ibrāhīm. It's a blessed household.
Ibrāhīm and Sārah received the glad tidings of a son. They were given the glad tidings, and this is after Ibrāhīm already had his son Ismāʿīl. They were very old in age, maybe over a hundred years old. They're given the news that they would have a child, and his name would be Isḥāq, and then after Isḥāq, Yaʿqūb.
The Jews say that Isḥāq was the one who was sacrificed, and not Ismāʿīl. Now, how can Isḥāq be sacrificed, when Ibrāhīm and Sārah were told that Isḥāq would live, and would have a son, and his son would be Yaʿqūb? What's the point in telling Ibrāhīm to sacrifice Isḥāq, if Ibrāhīm already knows that Isḥāq would live, and would have a son, and his son is Yaʿqūb? I mean, this shows you that the Jews, because of their jealousy and hatred, they try to change everything: take everything from Ismāʿīl and give it to Isḥāq. All of them are the anbiyāʾ of Allah, and Allah gives honour to whomever He wills. Anyway, this is something on the side.
