Wind, Jinn and a Fountain of Brass

Allah (swt) accepted the duʿāʾ of Sulaymān. Allah says: fa-sakhkharnā lahu al-rīḥa tajrī bi-amrihi rukhāʾan ḥaythu aṣāb — so We subjected to him the wind; it blew gently by his order wherever he willed.

And Sulaymān said: O mankind, we have been taught the language of birds, and on us have been bestowed all things. What does all things mean? Some of these things that the ayah talks about are, number one, wind. Sulaymān had control over the wind for a distance of a month; so he can use wind to travel for him and accomplish things a distance of a month. That is the span Sulaymān had control over: a distance of a month; that is the area of his control. Number one: control over wind.

And also the devils from the jinn, every kind of builder and diver. Allah (swt) made the shayāṭīn, the devils, servants with Sulaymān (peace be upon him), and he would command them with whatever order he wants. Some of them would dive in the oceans, and some of them would build for him; and there are other ayat that talk about this. Allah (swt) also taught him the language of birds — and we also know from another ayah that he knew the language of the ants.

And the other ayah: wa asalnā lahu ʿayna al-qiṭr — and We made a fountain of brass flow for him. This was a fountain — Allah knows best how — but it would flow with brass. We know that his father Dāwūd (peace be upon him) had the ability to mould iron, steel; with Sulaymān, Allah (swt) provided him with a fountain of brass. This brass would come out molten; he can mould it in whatever form he wants.

And there were jinn that worked in front of him by the leave of his Lord; and whoever of them turned aside from Our command, We shall cause him to taste the torment of the blazing fire. Any one of these jinn who would go against the orders of Sulaymān would be punished.
