The Offer of Intercession, and His Refusal

At this the Messenger of Allah felt a measure of mercy toward him, and said: O father of bitterness — is it possible, I wonder, for you to repent and return to your Lord? I give you my word that I would intercede on your behalf, make shafāʿah for you, if you were to make tawbah and return. The arrogant one, full of kibr, the accursed one, answered: O Messenger of Allah, this is Allah's own justice — the ink of the pen that wrote the decree upon the Preserved Tablet has already dried; what is to happen will happen until the Day of Resurrection. I will not change. The One who made you the master of all the prophets, the intercessor for the people of Paradise, and chose you as the most beloved of all His creation, is the same One who made me the master of sinners and the spokesman for the people of Hell — He is Allah, free of every deficiency and imperfection. O Muhammad, this that I have told you is my last word to you, and I have told you nothing but the truth. And with that, Shayṭān rose and left.
