The Reward Without Measure

The Qurʾān is full of āyāt, full of verses, in which Allah (swt) says, yes, We will give you this. Consider the Jews, and Firʿawn. What happened to Firʿawn, the Pharaoh? The Red Sea swallowed his whole army. And what was the condition of the Jews, the followers of Mūsā (peace be upon him), at that time? They were suffering in bondage — and this is not praise of the Jews; it is simply a Qurʾānic story. What were they doing? They were showing ṣabr, exercising ṣabr. Then what happened? Allah (swt) says in the Qurʾān that He made them wārithīn, inheritors, of a place where they had green pastures and beautiful places. Allah favoured them; Allah made them the chosen ones at that time. Why? Because of their ṣabr — their initial ṣabr. Of the many āyāt on this, a couple will serve. In Sūrat al-Zumar, verse ten, Allah (swt) says:

Allah (swt) says: O Muḥammad, tell them, say to them — all My believing servants, fear your Lord, fear Allah (swt). There is a good reward, an ample reward, for those who do goodness. Allah's (swt) earth is wāsiʿah, vast: a person may go and make hijrah if he wishes. But if he sits and puts up with the difficulties, the calamities, and shows ṣabr toward them, Allah (swt) will give him ḥasanāt, reward beyond any limit, beyond any number — numbers cannot be applied to it. This is the reward for those who show ṣabr in the face of difficulties.
