A Closing Supplication
May Allah (swt) make us of the dhākirīn, the people who always remember Him. May He make us of the shākirīn, the people who are always grateful to Him. May Allah (swt) make us of the muḥsinīn, the people who live Islam as if they see Allah (swt) — for although they do not see Allah, Allah (swt) nonetheless always sees them. May Allah (swt) make us true muʾminīn, if Allah wills, mukhlaṣīn, if Allah wills, ṣādiqīn, if Allah wills. Such a supplication is best made in a gathering, for teaching, taʿlīm, takes place before a living person, and it is better to be in company, in jamāʿah: it may be that one sincere person among those present says āmīn from the heart, and because of his supplication, or hers, the supplication of everyone is accepted. And the close of the prayer is: all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

* Kept as said. In the narration of this account in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim (Kitāb al-Īmān), ʿUmar strikes Abū Hurayrah between the breasts, on the chest, so that he falls on his back — not on the head.

In the narration in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, the Prophet (peace be upon him) tells Ubayy that Allah has commanded him to recite Sūrat al-Bayyinah to him; Ubayy asks whether Allah named him, is told yes, and weeps. The test of the Prophet's pronunciation by Ubayy is not part of that narration.

**** Kept as said. The saying al-nāsu niyāmun fa-idhā mātū intabahū is recorded by al-Sakhāwī in al-Maqāṣid al-Ḥasanah and by al-ʿAjlūnī in Kashf al-Khafāʾ as a saying of ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (may Allah be pleased with him), not as a hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
