A King Who Wrongs No One

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), when he saw the pain and suffering that his Companions were going through, he said, "Why don't you go to al-Ḥabashah? Because therein is a king who doesn't oppress anyone" — lā yuẓlamu ʿindahu aḥad. The king is just, and he doesn't oppress anyone. So they went to al-Ḥabashah, and the first to leave were ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān and his wife, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). There is a narration that says that ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān and his wife are the first to make hijrah for the sake of Allah after Lūṭ (peace be upon him). They went to al-Ḥabashah, and the second group came in. So they left Makkah.

Does that mean that the people of Quraysh would leave them alone? No. Even though the Muslims in Abyssinia were no threat to Makkah politically — they were no threat to the economic interests of Makkah — nevertheless, the people of Quraysh didn't want to leave the Muslims alone. In other words: even if we are left alone, we're not going to leave you alone. We're going to stay after you until we destroy your religion.
