The Madinan Period, Part 16: The Slander Against ʿĀ'ishah, and the Approach to the Trench
Section 7 of 22 · The Life of the Prophet Muhammad: The Madinan Period
A Falsehood Named by the Qur'an, and the Good That Came of It
The first: accusing a Muslim woman or man of zinā is a major sin. Accusing ʿĀ'ishah is kufr, because Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, starts the āyah by saying, "Those who have come up with the false imputation are a gang among you" (24:11). So Allah called it falsehood; Allah called it a lie. So if somebody accuses ʿĀ'ishah of that, then they are actually saying that the Qur'an is untrue. So that is kufr.
The second: there is good that came out of this evil. Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said, "Do not think it is bad for you; rather, it is good for you" (24:11). We learned all of the ādāb of dealing with such issues from this incident. Yes, ʿĀ'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and the family of Abū Bakr suffered, but the Ummah learned a lot, and the family of Abū Bakr, because of that suffering they went through, earned a lot of ḥasanāt because of their patience. So there was good in it for the Ummah and for the family of Abū Bakr.
