A City Called After Him

So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) laid siege to their territory. Returning to the message that was sent to them through Muḥammad ibn Maslamah: the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, ukhrujū min bilādī, "leave from my land." So now the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is calling Madīnah his land — he is not a guest any more; this is his land. This also shows the obedience the people of Madīnah gave to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), so that he was now ruling over them, even though he was not himself from Madīnah, and this had become his territory, and it is named after him — Madīnat Rasūl Allāh, the city of the Messenger of Allah. That is the meaning of Madīnah: it is called Madīnat Rasūl Allāh, the city of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).
