The Love of the Companions for the Messenger of Allah

It is worth stopping here to bring up this issue of loving the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). The love of the Companions for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was so true and so deep that it was even known to the enemies of Muḥammad (peace be upon him). Here is Abū Sufyān admitting it, because it was so compelling, the evidence was so clear, the issue was so impressive, that Abū Sufyān, the leader of the enemies of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), admits publicly and says, "I have never seen people who love someone like the Companions love Muḥammad."

And this wasn't because of a claim. If the Companions would claim that they loved Muḥammad (peace be upon him) day and night, that wouldn't have made a difference. But the love of Muḥammad (peace be upon him) emanated from their actions. It was reflected in their deeds. Here are two men facing death, and they are asked whether they wish to be safe with their family, with their kids, with their wife, in the comfort of their home, and have Muḥammad here instead of them. They said, "We would rather give our lives than Muḥammad (peace be upon him) be pricked by a thorn, be hurt by a thorn." This issue of loving Muḥammad (peace be upon him) was so well known to everyone.
