Mukallaf, and an Objection Answered

Who, then, may carry out the slaughter? Someone who is mukallaf. Does it have to be a man? No. Does it have to be a woman? No — either may do it, and a woman in her menses may perform it as well; where there is no man available to do it, that remains the case. An objection is sometimes raised: that the sight of blood is unbearable, that it feels cruel. The reply given is that this is squeamishness, not a valid exemption.
