Where the Signs Are Found

A question that naturally arises here is whether these are in the Qurʾān or in the hadith. The vast majority of the signs of the end of time are related in the hadith literature, although some are in the Qurʾān. One of them is that a clear smoke would appear over cities towards the end of time. It is in Sūrat al-Dukhān:

Some people have interpreted it that way. Dukhān is smoke, gas; it is the same word used for gas in Arabic. Dukhān is used for gas as well, because ghāz is a modern word for the Arabs. And "clear" means that it would be so evident that everybody would see it. And it says it is from the evil that people were doing.
