He Seizes Life Without Fear

Mumītun bi-lā makhāfah, bāʿithun bi-lā mashaqqah. He seizes life without fear and resurrects without effort.

Read closely, this can be seen responding to weaknesses in the human being, and to how those may be imputed to Allah (swt). So he is clarifying these points again. When a person takes somebody's life, there is sometimes an element of fear: whether they will be caught, whether it will be done this way or that way. Allah seizes life at its time, when He wants to do it, without any fear of anybody.

He resurrects without effort, which means that the same life that will be taken — everybody's life will be taken; everybody will die before the Day of Judgement — will be resurrected, and that will happen very easily. It is a great surprise that people do not question the initial creation of things. There is an example in history: the people of Makkah, when that particular individual came to the Prophet (peace be upon him)… He took two bones, old bones, and scraped them together until they became powder, and he said: “Are you saying that Allah is going to resurrect this?”

Logically speaking, to bring somebody from nothing into existence seems to be a more difficult task than simply to resurrect somebody who has already lived a life, and had a body and form. Why is it that they question the second, and not the first? The first is from experience; it is something they have experience with. The second, they do not yet have experience of. But their comprehension does not allow them to understand that as well, and the absence of tawfīq is what leads them to question the resurrection. So he says it very clearly here: that He resurrects without effort. So He gives them death when it is their time for death, which He has decided for them.
